Public minimum wage hearing scheduled
There will be a public hearing at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel in Niagara Falls on Wednesday, regarding the Ontario government’s proposed minimum wage hike to $15 by 2019.
Speakers from Niagara will present their cases for or against the proposed hike, laid out in Bill 148, also known as the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act 2017.
The event is organized by the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs to review the bill.
The committee will be hearing delegations all day.
The deadline has passed for those who wish to make an oral presentation, though anybody interested in commenting on the bill should send a written submission to the clerk of the committee by 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 21.
The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce’s chief executive, Mishka Bolsom, is scheduled to present at 9:50 a.m.
A full schedule of presenters can be found here.
