Canoe polo players were testing out the waters at the Welland International Flatwater Centre on Sunday morning.

In canoe polo, players pass the ball with their hands and knock it out of the air with their paddles. They play in specially designed canoes or kayaks for two 7- to 10-minute periods, during which time they can use contact to push each other out of the way and get to the ball first.

Next year, the International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships will be held at Welland's flatwater venue, where teams of five will compete against one another for the title.
